It started about a year ago, I bought the box set of the revised Battlestar Galactica. Having been a fan of the older series when I was a kid I was recommended it by my boss , So I bought it and it blew me away...great acting, superb characters, gritty and awesome space battles in the famous MKII Viper. I've always been a fan of space sim games, currently playing X3 reunion, modded out with all the BSG ships and I've been playing this excellent sim now for about 18 months. So I got thinking and searching on the web. I wonder if anyone has made a Cockpit sim of a Viper and to my suprise I only found one entry and it looked nothing like a viper...so that is how my project was born. I've had to make some adjustments to fit it inside my home, but any BSG fan will instantly recognise it. The great thing about this cockpit is that anyone can make one, it's not been dificult and I'm no expert in carpentry and it has been incredibly satisfying seeing it move on from plans on paper to a 2 metre replica of my favourite space craft. See for yourself when I've posted the photo's in a month or so....I'll never grow up, who wants to????
System includes
Saitek AV8R Retro Joystick, Programmed to control entire X3TC game
Blue backlit keyboard, blacked out so only lit keys are visible
20 inch tft monitor
Athlon dual core processor @ 3.13ghz
4 gb system ram
Windows Xp Home
9400GT 1GB Nvidia card
5.1 Surround sound
I've not decided on if I want to install rudder pedals so this is optional!
X3R does not support Quad core processing as yet so I've gone for Dual core and maxxed out to my budget limit on everything else, Its a beast of a game performance wise so this rig should run it nicely and it also gives the player total freedom in what he or she does. therefore the game is endless. If you want to know more the egosoft site and forum answers all the questions you may have about this game. The latest installment and last in the series finally brings the player to earth (ring any bells?) A little imagination and you are there. The models that you can add are great, about 32 ships from the old series and most from the new, I fly a MKII and MKVII...as for the capitol ships. Galactica is awesome doubling as a destroyer and carrier being able to dock 80 vipers, Pegasus does pretty much the same job but is huge, Galactica is an easier sized ship to manage.
